MRO Board of Directors Observer Guidelines
Training students of the Mountains and Rivers Order are eligible to attend the quarterly board meetings. This is a way to learn more about the functioning and responsibilities of the board, which is a vital aspect of governance within the MRO. Observers are asked to observe the following guidelines:
- Dates for upcoming meetings are posted on the website at https://zmm.org/about/governance/. Formal training students who wish to attend as observers should read these guidelines and email board-secretary@dharma.net no later than 5pm the day before the meeting to request a zoom link to attend. Zoom participants will be sent a link on the morning of the scheduled meeting.
- Training students are invited to attend upcoming board meetings; notices for signing up are typically sent a week prior to the date of the meeting.
- Meetings begin at 1:15 pm and generally run for 2-3 hours. Please be on time at the start of meetings. Observers do not need to stay for the entire meeting.
- Meetings are held via Zoom. Observers are invited to listen off camera. The sound and chat functions are disabled, unless observers are invited to speak.
- We ask that observers refrain from sharing the Zoom link. Among other things, this allows the meeting organizers to keep track of meeting attendees.
- The board Secretary will send observers a copy of the meeting agenda and relevant materials, typically the day before the meeting.
- Closed sessions of the board meetings are held after general business has been covered. Observers will be asked to leave meetings before closed sessions begin.
- Observers are encouraged to reach out to the Board Chair and Secretary with any questions following meetings.
