From Refuge to Sanctuary: Honoring The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 16, 2022

The 2022 Sangha recognition of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr, “From Refuge to Sanctuary,” is created and offered by the People of African Descent (PAD) affinity group, centering the bodhisattva work brought into being by Dr. King throughout his lifetime.

Where is refuge in the midst of a world that denies your humanity? From this beginning we are led, with words and images, into finding refuge from the hurt and injustice of American racism by Dr King and his offering of sanctuary as the movement he helped to build. This powerful, enduring movement recognizes justice and freedom as our shared birthright.

The commemoration will also feature statements by other affinity groups within the MRO Sangha, describing their own journey from taking refuge in the Dharma to recognition of the sanctuary-building work to be done in social and environmental justice.
We look forward to sharing this day with you .
