The LGBTQ Group at Fire Lotus Temple is a place for practitioners in the MRO to explore how the dharma teachings can illuminate life as an LGBTQ person. We want to create a space to help us be more visible to ourselves and to one another, and we envision the group as a way for LGBTQ sangha members to offer mutual support to one another so we can practice the dharma together.
We’ll meet monthly in the evenings or on weekends to explore the many issues that affect our lives, including identity, anger, fearlessness and cultivating compassion—all in the context of the dharma. If you identify as an LGBTQ person, have attended beginning instruction at the Temple or Monastery, and are interested in exploring the Buddhist teachings within the Mountain and Rivers Order, please join us for one of our meetings.
Meetings take place on Wednesdays from 7-9pm.
The Tea Group is open to anyone who identifies as an LGBTQ person and who:
1. Attended Beginning Instruction at the Temple or Monastery
2. Is interested in exploring Buddhist teachings with MRO teachers and seniors, and other sangha members
3. Is willing and able to abide by the group’s Dialogue Guidelines
