The People of Color (PoC) Tea Group began in 2013 because PoC sangha members of Fire Lotus Temple wanted to build upon the broader initiatives and efforts of the Beyond Fear of Differences Program to bring the Buddhist teachings of wisdom and compassion to alleviate the suffering created by bias. The mission of this group is to support one another as sangha members in studying the Dharma with MRO teachers and with one another in order to heal ourselves, create and build community and recognize our true nature of interdependence. We envision the group as a way for PoC sangha members to offer mutual support and create a safe space for practicing the Dharma together.
We meet about every other month in the evenings or on weekends and explore many issues that affect our lives including identity, anger, cultivating compassion, and the ways that the dharma can support our lives. If you identify as a person of color, have attended beginning instruction at the Temple or Monastery, and are interested in exploring Buddhist teachings with the Mountain and Rivers Order, please feel free to contact us to be added to our email list.
