Geoffrey Shugen Arnold, Roshi
True Dharma Eye, Case 76
Zen Mountain Monastery, 11/20/2019
To be human means there is a fire within and to bring forth this fire is to bring forth life. In this discourse on the nature of mind and the practice of enlightenment, Shugen Roshi explores the essence of thinking and not-thinking, knowing and not-knowing. No-mind is not necessarily in conflict with intellectual understanding: just as enlightenment is the same as non-enlightenment, thinking is the same as not-thinking in its true nature, but to see this clearly we need to practice and verify, again and again.
