Reopening the Zen Center

Dear Fire Lotus Sangha,

Greetings from State Street! We hope that you and your loved ones are well and enjoying the lengthening days and warmer weather.

We’re happy to share with you that preliminary plans to re-open Fire Lotus Temple for zazen are finally taking shape.
Beginning Tuesday, April 13, we plan to open the Buddha Hall for zazen to six people at a time for three evenings each week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday) from 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

Working in consultation with sangha members who possess expertise in epidemiology and infectious disease medicine, we developed a detailed reopening plan to ensure the safety of both the residents and the broader Sangha. You can read the plan in full here.

Because space is limited, we ask that everyone pre-register through Calendly and refrain from signing up for more than one sitting per week. As the situation continues to evolve, we plan to stay in touch with our sangha experts and make any necessary adjustments to these arrangements.

Finally, we recognize that not everyone feels comfortable venturing out yet, so please do not feel pressure to participate in any way that feels inappropriate to your particular situation. We trust that we will eventually be able to welcome everyone back!

If you have any questions, please contact Yunen at zcnyc@dharma.net.
